Fish

I darted in the shallows and danced in the warm, dark greeny depths

My silvered scales flashed bright as I leaped free of the soft water

I twisted with joy in the brilliant gold sunlight

Your hook was beautifully dressed and artfully concealed

The razor sharpness was just a subtle nick past the hard bones of my jaw

The line only tightened slowly and gently

But gradually my silvered head was twisted and turned towards the tightening line

My gleaming body was slowly and inexorably led by that line to a sad place that had never before been visited

My gleaming silver scales were stripped aside and left to grow dull and hard on the ground

I am now just a fillet of fish
